Health Care Spending for Seven Chronic Conditions by Rurality: A National Chartbook
Health care spending patterns reveal how the health care delivery system responds to disease burden across communities, yet most national spending estimates lack the geographic granularity needed to understand rural-urban differences in care for major chronic conditions. This project will create a chartbook, detailing condition-specific spending at the county level, focusing on seven chronic conditions: heart disease, diabetes, substance use disorder, mental health, cancer, chronic respiratory disease, and neurologic disorders. The chartbook will describe variation in spending by across the rural-urban continuum, both nationally and by Census Division. This resource will help support rural-focused conversations about resource allocation and care delivery priorities.
