This study has as its main objectives to (1) become familiar with the health care delivery system, providers, and health care needs of the resident population in the six Pacific Basin island jurisdictions where the U.S. has been involved in health care, (2) make contacts with medical and political leadership in the island jurisdictions, (3) obtain health provider information and perform an evaluation of the workforce of the six island jurisdictions, (4) initiate a clinical needs assessment, (5) make recommendations regarding continuing health provider education as well as training of new providers and postgraduate training, and (6) collaboratively develop a plan for later phases of the project, including completion of the clinical needs assessment and development and implementation of a continuing education program.
