Topic: Health care financing

This project monitors trends in rural managed care (commercial, Medicaid, and Medicare) and estimates the effect of public policies on rural enrollment in health maintenance organizations (HMOs). We will collect information on rural HMO enrollment from state agencies and the Health Care Financing Administration. In addition, we will explore the feasibility of developing a consistent longitudinal database that captures the geographic availability of managed care organizations that are not HMOs (e.g. preferred provider organizations).
