Medicaid & CHIP Participation Among Rural & Urban Children
Characteristics of Rural & Urban Children Who Qualify For Medicaid or CHIP But Are Not Enrolled
Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) are important sources of health insurance coverage for children in rural areas. However, many children who are qualified for these public programs are not enrolled and remain uninsured. The first of these two companion briefs summarizes findings on Medicaid/CHIP participation rates for rural and urban children. The second brief describes the characteristics of rural and urban children who qualify for Medicaid or CHIP but are not enrolled and lack insurance from any source. These characteristics should be considered when targeting outreach to eligible-but-uninsured children.
